Reflection: Before this lesson I hadn't really used AI like Chat GBT for anything. So this assignment was definitely new territory for me. I started by asking for a lesson about video copyright for college freshmen and from there I added more and more specifiers to narrow down the lesson into what I wanted it to be. When we split up into breakout rooms we first talked about who our audience would be. I suggested how copyright was a good topic to teach college freshmen as they would be writing research papers and other assignments that require students to cite their sources and several others agreed. We then wondered how we could each make our lessons unique. Someone suggested we each tackle a different media for copyright. That's how I settled on video copyright as the subject for my lesson. Then as we continued to talk I was also exploring Chat GBT and mentioned that I had found you could specify the length of a lesson and whether it is asynchronous or synchronous. One of the other people in the group asked what kind of chat AI I was using and when I responded Chat GBT they suggested one called Perplexity. I tried it out and found that I like Perplexity more so that was how I came to use it for this assignment.
Chloe,
ReplyDeleteThis assignment was my first time using AI too. When we were separated into breakout groups during class, my group started discussing different AI options that would be useful for K12 lesson plans. Like you, we looked at both ChatGpt and Perplexity, as well as MagicSchool. A couple of us wanted to use the book, "Killer Underwear Invasion," to talk about media literacy, disinformation, and conspiracy theories, agreeing to put our own spin on our lesson plans so that they did not turn out the same. What I liked about MagicSchool was that educators are able to include alignment with state standards into the criteria. I ended up taking pieces of Perplexity, ChatGpt, and MagicSchool to create my lesson plan.
I like the way that each member of your group took on a different medium to explore copyright. That way each member will ensure that they come at the topic from a different angle. It’s interesting that you were able to specify synchronous or asynchronous learning. Did you end up using Perplexity as your main AI resource? How did you like using AI for your lesson plan? I found the endless options exciting and much less intimidating than I had anticipated.
